dental sealants

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are highly effective at preventing tooth decay. Dental sealant is a simple procedure where a tooth-colored acrylic “coating” is applied to the depressions and grooves of the tooth. This effectively “seals off” the deep grooves, acting as a barrier and protecting enamel from plaque and acids.

Sealants are very easy to apply and only take a few minutes to seal a tooth. Children and adults both can benefit from sealants in the fight against tooth decay.

Paediatric Dentistry

The first regular dental visit should be soon after your child’s first birthday. The first dental visit requires very few treatments and is usually short. We will gently examine your child’s teeth and gums. X-rays may be taken to check on the progress of the child’s permanents teeth under the gums and reveal any decay to current teeth.

Baby teeth are important as they not only hold space for permanent teeth but they are important to chewing, biting, speech and appearance. For this reason, it is important to maintain a healthy diet and daily care.

nightguard

Nightguard

Nightguards are commonly worn at night to protect the teeth, jaw joints, and muscles from excessive biting forces caused by night grinding (bruxism). The symptoms of teeth grinding include dull headaches, jaw soreness, painful or loss teeth, worn down, and fractured teeth.

Nightguards are a great way to prevent further tooth and gum damage caused by bruxism and can lead to a higher quality of sleep. Nightguards are fitted with two simple appointments. The first appointment will create impressions of teeth and bite which are sent to a laboratory where technicians will build the nightguard. The second appointment will take place after two weeks where the nightguard is fitted and adjusted if required.
