Restorative treatments

Fillings

At Westmead Gentle Dental, we provide inlays and bonds filling to restore a broken-down tooth. inlays and bonds are high-quality tooth-coloured white composite fillings which is used in placed of the tooth or on a tooth to fill large cavities.

Filling is a conservative method of dental restoration which require less drilling and often no anaesthetic. The white composite tooth fillings resin is painlessly and securely fused to the tooth with a curing light. Later on, these tooth-coloured white composite tooth fillings may also be repaired if chipped or stained. These white composite tooth fillings blend well with your natural white teeth and are much less noticeable.

Crowns

Dental crowns will help if you have a broken or fractured tooth, have a cavity that is just too big for a filling, or if you had a root canal. Dental crowns can be made of gold or ceramic. ceramic dental crowns may also be used as part of a smile makeover to give teeth a more beautiful and uniform appearance.

We will take molds of your teeth and send them to a lab, the lab can fabricate your high-quality ceramic dental crowns to our exact specifications. In the meantime, we will install temporary crowns so that the teeth are protected and look and feel natural. During the next appointment, we will remove the temporary crowns and cement the permanent ceramic dental crowns into place.

Implants

Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. For anyone that has lost teeth can regain the ability to eat normally again, and can smile with confidence that teeth will appear natural and facial contours will persevere.

A dental implant is made from tiny titanium posts which are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition, dental implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration which occurs when the teeth are missing.

Bridges

In more severe cases of tooth decay, dental bridges may be recommended to replace missing teeth. Ceramic dental crowns go on the teeth on either side of the space, while the bridge connects them right in the middle and holds an artificial tooth to fill the gap.

Apply the same home care to your ceramic dental crowns and bridges as you do your natural teeth. Brush and floss daily as well as visit your cosmetic dentist for regular dental check-ups.

Root Canal

A root canal is a procedure that is done to save a tooth that is badly damaged or infected. The pulp or living part of the tooth is made up of nerves and blood vessels which is contained in the pulp chamber which is a space inside the centre of the tooth that extends into the roots. When the pulp becomes infected or dies root canal treatment is required to remove the nerve and pulp from the “canal” and clean and sealed off the inside of the root.

Our root canals treatments are fast and comfortable thanks to the use of motorized rotary instruments and local anaesthetic. We use motorized rotary files to perform root canals in one visit, often in less than an hour. Traditionally root canals are done using a hand file, which has the possibility of breaking inside the tooth. With the motorized rotary tool, root canals treatments are faster and more comfortable than old-fashioned drilling.

tooth extractions

Tooth Extractions

Some teeth have to be extracted because they might be severely decayed, have advanced gum disease, or have broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth), or preparation for orthodontic treatment.

The removal of a single tooth can lead to problems related to your chewing ability, problems with your jaw joint, and shifting teeth, which can have a major impact on your dental health. To avoid these complications, in most cases alternatives to extractions as well as replacement of the extracted tooth will be carefully considered and discussed with you.

Dentures

People wear dentures to replace lost or missing teeth so they can enjoy a healthy diet and smile with confidence. We provide acrylic, metal casting and valplast dentures.

Our dentists will take measurements and impressions of your mouth so that we can order your perfect dentures from the lab.
